Topical Medications

  • Topical Metronidazole is available in gel, lotion & cream at 0.75% . It is part anti-inflammatory, part insecticide and part anti-bacterial
  • Topical Noritate is 1% Metronidazole in a cream formulation.
  • Topical Klaron (Sodium Sulfacetamide Lotion)
  • Azelaic Acid (Azalex)

The most common rosacea treatment approach is to combine a systemic rosacea treatment medication with a topical rosacea treatment medication for 4 to 8 months.

Once the rosacea has been reigned in, topical rosacea treatment is used alone to (hopefully) maintain the results.

Topical rosacea medications are applied to dry skin.

You should wait 10-20 minutes after applying topical rosacea treatments before applying any further skin care.

The topical rosacea medications do not usually make for a very elegant skin texture when used alone and should be followed by some form of appropriate rosacea skin care.
