Rosacea / Acne Rosacea - 1961 Acne Personality Study
Findings of the Lucas study which claimed a relationship between neurosis and acne:
- preoccupation with the skin, developing into squeezing, picking and excessive application of topical treatments;
- ritualistic skin treatment behaviours (for example, one patient was spending 2 hours per day treating their skin problem);
- one female with recurrent acne spent long periods pleasurably pinching her lesions only to invariable follow the behaviour with "guilty disinfecting" of the same lesions using strong solutions.
