Rosacea: An Introduction

The Skin's Nutritional Needs

Like any organ, the skin's needs are fundamentally nutritional.

Diet alone, while important, is inadequate to satisfactorily compensate for poor skin function where rosacea is present.

Topical supplementation with suitable agents is required to assist the skin's return to proper form.

Currently, there is a great deal of focus on resolving various common skin conditions and bringing about facial skin rejuvenation or skin quality restoration through the application of topical agents (usually exfoliants).

It is vital to make a distinction between those ingredients the skin is able to recognize and work with, and those which are foreign to it.

Ingredients the skin does not recognize will be rejected resulting in either:

Medically based topical rosacea therapies are only designed to assist in resolving redness and reducing exisiting lesions.

Yet there are many other aspects to skin quality which need to be addressed in treating skin compromised by rosacea:

  • improving skin barrier function and moisture retention
  • enhancing the skin's immune function in order to prevent damage at the cellular level
  • textural changes
  • lines and wrinkles
  • pigmentary changes
