Worsening of Dermatological Conditions by Stress - Griesemer

In 1978, Griesemer examined 4576 patients and made a report on the dermatological conditions found to be worsened by stressful experiences.

Skin disorders that were significantly associated with emotional triggers were:

  • hyperhidrosis;
  • lichen simplex chronicus;
  • rosacea;
  • dyshidrosis;
  • atopic dermatitis;
  • urticaria;
  • psoriasis;
  • acne vulgaris and
  • seborrheic dermatitis.

In the case of rosacea, the biologic incubation between stress and clinical change was found to be 2 days.
